A local resident, Carol Ballard, warns others of a scam targeting senior citizens. A company called Pharma Plus of New York City, N.Y., called Ballard three times recently offering free medical cards.
After verifying the resident’s name, address and zip code, the representative on the line began asking about bank account information. After hanging up on the initial caller, Ballard said she received a second phone call from another person with the company seeking bank account information.
Upon being pressed for information on the company, the second caller disconnected the call. A third call was also received, during which Ballard was able to get information on the name and location of the company, which was calling from a blocked phone number.
Do not give personal bank account information to anyone over the phone. If you receive a call from this company, contact Olney Police Department at (940 564-5550 to file a report.
