Olney to vote on four Council seats

Olney voters will go to the polls to select four of six City Council positions with the mayor’s and three council seats up for grabs.

Two incumbents, Mayor Rue Rogers and Councilmember Thea Sullivan, will run in the May 4 race. Former City Councilmember Terri Wipperman also is seeking a new term.

Voters can go to the polls for early voting from April 2230 at the Olney Community Library and Arts Center.

Mr Rogers will run against A.D. Patel, owner of The Pipeliner Inn. Seven candidates are competing for the Council seats vacated by Tommy Kimbro, who declined to run again, and former Mayor Pro Tem Tom Parker, who left the Council last year to head up the Olney Economic Development Corporation.

The Council chose Mrs. Sullivan to served out Mr. Parker’s term, which expires on May 4.

The candidates for the two open at-large seats are Ruben Torres, Melissa Ann Scott, Mona K. Bernhardt, Jackie Griffith-Voyles, Ronnie Cowart and Kathy Schrader Muncy.

Voters will also choose from four candidates to serve Brad Simmons’ remaining term in a separate special election.

Those candidates are Steven J. Nurre, Thea Sullivan, Lita Browning, and Carol Vorel.
