OISD candidates focus on issues

The Olney Independent School District’s Board of Trustees will see at least one and possibly three seats turn over in the upcoming May 4 election.

Hannah Stewart is running unopposed for the Place 3 seat that will be vacated by Mark McClelland. Mr. McClelland served out the term of school board president Jake Bailey, who moved away from Olney last year with his family.

Incumbent board members Jodee Wales and Kenley Lane are running for a second and third term, respectively.

Mr. Wales faces Olney Country Club President Landon Rowe in the Place 1 race. Mr. Lane faces Olney Country Club board member Ryan Cawthon in the Place 2 race.

Both Mr. Wales and Mr. Lane will run on their records: OISD maintained a high academic ranking relative to surrounding districts, provided teacher raises and made major upgrades to campus safety, while also rebuilding the baseball fields.

Mr. Cawthon and Mr. Rowe said they will focus on accountability of district personnel for the quality of programs at the district.

Mrs. Stewart said she will use evidence-based decision making to maintain the district’s high-quality academics and programs.
